Tell us about your blog
Scarlet Words began as a little place to document my daily adventures and share them with far away friends. Over the years it has grown, and through my blog I have had some incredible opportunities and met wonderful people. It still amazes me that complete strangers drop in to read my posts from time to time, and it makes me really happy to read the comments and emails that people leave for me!
My blog centres around my happy little life in Melbourne, Australia. I'm a musician (on hiatus), a photographer, a beginner artist and all-round creative soul. I live with two handsome brown-eyed boys (one with two legs, the other with four) and life is pretty grand.
I love to blog about my photography and other creative pursuits, and the little stories from our daily lives. My magnificent city is always giving me new things to write about.
What has been inspiring you lately?
I've just finished a beginner drawing & painting class at the Melbourne Studio of Art (www.studyart.com.au), and loved it so much that I have signed up for another term! I'm the sort of person who truly believed that drawing was for "other people" and after a couple of short months I have become completely hooked. I am so excited by what I'm learning, and can't wait to find out how far I can go with it.
I'm inspired by people who are pursuing a life that they love; that kind of passion is contagious. I'm inspired by random acts of kindness. I have friends who are so dependably inspiring that I would bottle them if I could!
What's your favourite part(s) about Fall?
Here in Australia we're six months away from Autumn, and until then we have to endure a really long and hot summer. I kind of struggle with the heat here, so I've been making a conscious effort to concentrate extra hard on the parts of summer that I do love. Big mango & chicken salads, long evenings where you can sit outside in the breeze, music festivals and the lead-up to Christmas.
(Have you ever had an Aussie Christmas? We usually serve seafood over ice, salads and lots of cold drinks. A snowman wouldn't last five minutes here in December!)
Over the next couple of months I'm looking forward to writing my next "101 Things in 1001 Days" list, and tracking my progress on my blog. I'm looking forward to making lots of art on my easel and in my paper journals, and taking mini road trips to the parts of the state that I've never seen. Anything that will take my mind off the heatwaves!
