I rounded up some tech-savvy gift ideas for that special nerd in your life. Personally, I would LOVE to upgrade to a bigger tablet. Mine is pretty outdated and teeny tiny–I’m constantly running off the *page* while using it. And seriously, how cool is that desktop phonogram?!
I know I say this a lot, but I am truly grateful to live near so many beautiful places in California. For Glenn and I, one of our favorite things to do is go hiking. Over the weekend we decided to explore a new trail near Cool, CA known as Dead Truck Trail. It was just the right amount of steep vs. flat and perfect for the pups to join us. They absolutely LOVED it–especially Roscoe who has energizer bunny-esque amounts of energy. He and Walter ran up ahead of us stopping only to smell (or pee on) something or to greet a trail runner passing us by. One woman was not so apt to return Roscoe’s friendly greeting and actually picked a fight with us. When we tried to apologize for him standing in her path & momentarily breaking her stride she proceeded to dump water from her bottle onto him (whoa, lady) which is not only rude but completely unnecessary. I swear, it took everything in me not to push this woman off the edge of the trail. Okay, not really but I was super mad! I told her to stop being a brat, ha. The rest of the hike Glenn and I kept taking turns rehashing the crazy lady’s overreaction and shaking our heads.
Crazy lady or not, nothing could stop us from enjoying the breathtaking views and scenery surrounding us. I mean, just look at that last photo. It looks like Glenn is entering Narnia (or being abducted by aliens). When he stopped to climb those rocks up to a small ravine so the dogs could get a drink of water, I turned and the light was hitting just perfectly above them. I really, really love taking photos with my iPhone 5s and editing them with the VSCO CAM app. The results are what you see here. Not bad, eh? I’m constantly blown away by my smart phone’s camera capabilities.
If you’re from around here I totally recommend this trail. We want to come back with a group of people, pack a picnic and hike the loop all the way around next time. I figure we can get a few more hikes in around town before it gets too cold/dark this season. Nature: you’re pretty awesome.
I try to remember to be grateful all year ’round but of course, today more than ever I count my lucky stars for all the good that is in my life. Just to name a few, I am thankful for:
My health, and the awareness that comes with taking care of my body + mind.
The clamor of laughter and conversation that is always found inside my mother’s home.
My guy, who can certainly drive me up the wall from time to time, but is also my number one fan and inspiration.
Wine. For always being the catalyst to a relaxing few moments, a heartfelt conversation or a compliment to a home-cooked meal.
The ability to be creative as part of my livelihood.
Today, Glenn and I are up the hill celebrating a day of thanks with his side of the family. Tomorrow, we’ll be doing the same at my mom’s. I suppose I’m also grateful our families get together on different days because ain’t nobody got time for all that driving + running around!
Last but not least, I am grateful for you. Yes, you. Thank you for reading here and being part of my journey. I wish you all the warmest of holidays. xx

And just like that, it’s Thanksgiving week! Personally, I am so excited to eat ALL THE THINGS and spend time with my family. I always find myself feeling grateful this time of year (even in the midst of running all over town to visit different members of family, holiday gift planning, etc.) It really is an extra special time.
READING / With last week being the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination, my fascination with the entire event was reignited. Glenn and I have been talking a lot about our personal theories on what happened that fateful day in Dallas; we even downloaded some documentaries to watch, on the subject. In addition, I discovered that Stephen King’s latest novel albeit fiction, revolves around the assassination so I downloaded it to my Kindle over the weekend. Three chapters in and I’m immediately hooked! I’ll let you know how I like it when I’m finished.
WATCHING / Last night my sister + cousin’s and I went and saw that latest film adaptation from the Hunger Games series: Catching Fire. It was really, really, well done. I think I even liked it better than the first one. I read all the books when they came out a few years ago so I didn’t remember a lot of what was going to happen, which actually made the movie more enjoyable to me. However, now I want to re-read the last book because I want to remember how it all ends!
LISTENING TO / I recently upgraded to the new iPhone and decided to start over with my music library. I downloaded a few albums and have been listening to everything on shuffle in the car so my playlist lately consists of a nice, healthy (and some might say bizarre) mix of Drake, Miranda Lambert, Jenny Lewis and Eminem. Sorry not sorry.
LOOKING FORWARD TO / Launching some recent design work. I’ve been hustling my derriere off lately in the freelance field. I feel like I’m learning a lot and growing into my own as a designer with these last few projects. I’m trying new things + styles and it’s been fun. Can’t wait to share here very soon.
LOVING / Glenn. I know, I know. Sappy. But I just feel so dang grateful for that guy as of late. He’s there for me when I’m having a rough day and is in my corner championing me when I’m kicking butt at something (usually together). Also, the complete opposite is also something I consider a plus–when we’re not doing something together our flow is just the same. We each have our own individual hobbies and are okay doing our own thing separate from one another from time to time. Our relationship has always been like this and its something I think is very rare.
What have you been currently up to? xx
As always, thanks to the lovely lady Danielle for the inspiration behind these posts.
